Team Canada’s Grace St-Germain qualifies for U.S. Women’s Amateur

Team Canada’s Grace St-Germain carded a 1-under-par 71 to share medallist honours with three others at the U.S. Women’s Amateur qualifier in Bermuda Run, N.C., to secure her spot at at the U.S. Women’s Amateur from Aug. 7-13.
The Ottawa native recorded three birdies and two bogeys at Bermuda Run Country Club’s East Course to finish at 1 under par alongside Payton Schanen (Johns Creek, Ga.), Sarah Bae (Pinehurst, N.C.) and the Philippines Lois Kaye Go – securing one of seven spots available in the U.S. Women’s Amateur at San Diego Country Club, in Chula Vista, Calif.,
St-Germain is coming off a strong freshman season at Daytona State College (NJCAA). The 18-year-old had four top-10s including two runner-up results.

She finished third at the 2017 NJCAA National Championship helping the Falcons win their ninth title in the program’s history and fourth in the last five years.
St-Hyacinthe, Que., native Valerie Tanguay is the other Canadian already in the field in Chula Vista – booking her ticket at the Monroe Township, N.J., qualifier on June 28.
St-Germain is no stranger to USGA events, reaching the round-of-16 at the 2016 U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship.

Team Canada Amateur Squad’s Maddie Szeryk won the B.C. Women’s Amateur at 9 under par carding a final round 3-under-par 70 to finish four shots ahead of her teammate Jaclyn Lee at Vernon Golf and Country Club, in Vernon, B.C.
Szeryk, 20, led through 54 holes and recorded her third under par round of the week with six birdies and three bogeys to win her second tournament in the last three weeks following a victory at the Women’s Western Golf Association Amateur Championship from June 12-17 at River Forest Country Club.
The London, Ont., native is coming off a stellar junior season with Texas A&M. She was named a First-Team All-American and won the Dr. Donnis Invitational at Kane’ohe Klipper Golf Course, posting an Aggies’ record season stroke average of 71.24 in the process.
Lee had the lowest score of the final round with a 5-under-par 68. The Calgary, Alta., native had an excellent sophomore season with the Ohio State Buckeyes leading the team in stroke average at 73.71.
The Amateur Squad’s Naomi Ko (Victoria, B.C.) finished tied for third at even par alongside Surrey, B.C. native Michelle Kim.
Ottawa’s Grace St-Germain – the fourth member of the team Canada Amateur Squad in Vernon – was fifth at 3 over par after a final round 73.
Development Squad rookie Mary Parsons (Delta, B.C.) was T9 at 17 over par (79-75-79-76). Her teammate Chloe Currie (Mississauga, Ont.) was T14 at 29 over par.

Team Canada Amateur Squad’s Maddie Szeryk continues to lead the B.C. Women’s Amateur at 6 under par after carding a 1-over-par 74 in round three to sit three shots ahead of her teammate Naomi Ko at Vernon Golf and Country Club, in Vernon, B.C.
Szeryk, 20, led by six after 36 holes but was inconsistent in Thursday’s third round recording five birdies to combat six bogeys and posting her first over par round of the tournament.

Amateur Squad’s Jaclyn Lee (Calgary, Alta.) is in third at 1 under par alongside Surrey, B.C., native Michelle Kim, after matching rounds of 73 (E).
Ottawa’s Grace St-Germain – the fourth member of the team Canada Amateur Squad in Vernon – is fifth at 1 over par (78-70-74).

Team Canada’s Maddie Szeryk carded a bogey-free, 4-under-par 69 on Wednesday at the B.C. Women’s Amateur to move to 7 under par and take sole possession of first place through 36 holes at Vernon Golf and Country Club in Vernon, B.C.
The London, Ont., native started the day in second at 3 under par. Four birdies in round two vaulted her into first place—six shots clear of Michelle Kim (Surrey, B.C.) who is 1 under par.
Szeryk, 20, had a stellar junior year with Texas A&M en route to lowering her own season stroke average record with a 71.24 mark in 2016-17 and pouring in an Aggies’ record 128 birdies.
Fellow Amateur Squad golfer Jaclyn Lee is in third at even par (72-74). The Calgary native had five top-10 finishes with Ohio State in her sophomore season helping the Buckeyes reach the match-play quarterfinals of the NCAA Division I National Championship.
Amateur Squad teammate Grace St-Germain is in fourth place at 2 over par. The Ottawa native carded a 3-under-par 70 in Wednesday’s second round.

Team Canada’s Naomi Ko is leading the way at 4 under par after 18 holes of the B.C. Women’s Amateur at Vernon Golf and Country Club in Vernon, B.C.
The Victoria, B.C., product carded a opening round 69 with five birdies and one bogey to sit one stroke clear of her Amateur Squad teammate Maddie Szeryk (London, Ont.), who posted a 3-under-par 70 to grab sole possession of second.
Ko, 19, will be a junior at North Carolina State in the fall. She posted a season stroke average of 74.53 with the Wolfpack in 2016-17 and recently finished 3rd at the prestigious Porter Cup.
Szeryk is coming off an impressive win at the Women’s Western Amateur Championship at River Forest Country Club from June 12-17. The 20-year-old will enter her senior season at Texas A&M as the Aggies career stroke average leader at 71.64.
Fellow Amateur Squad golfer Jaclyn Lee is T3 at 1-under-par (72). The Calgary native led Ohio State in stroke average during the 2016-17 season at 73.71.
The fourth member of the Team Canada Amateur Squad Grace St-Germain of Ottawa is T9 at 5 over par after an opening round 78.

The London, Ont, native built a 3-up lead through the first 18 holes that she never relinquished. Kim got within 2-down with three to play, but a par-birdie finish by Szeryk secured her the victory.
“We still had 18 holes left so I could have gone 3-down but I stuck to my game plan and pretended it was a new match and that we were all square and tried to play my game and keep going,” said Szeryk
A junior at Texas A&M, Szeryk started the week strong and never looked back. She was the No. 2 seed in the 64-women match play bracket after opening 73-70 to sit 1-under-par after 36 holes of stroke play qualifying.

Through multiple weather delays Szeryk won six matches, only going the full 18 holes once, in the semi finals against Sophia Schubert (Oak Ridge, Tenn.).
The 20-year-old is coming off a record setting year with the Texas A&M. Her 71.24 season stroke average and 128 birdies were both Aggies records. She won the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational and finished T13 at the NCAA Division I Championship, earning her First-Team All-American honours.

Team Canada Amateur Squad member Maddie Szeryk won two matches Friday to advance to the finals of the Women’s Western Golf Association Championship at River Forest Country Club in Elmhurst, Ill.
The London, Ont., product def. Sophia Schubert (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) 1-up in her semi-final match,
The match was back and forth early and was all-square after nine. Szeryk took the lead on No. 13 and held it until a bogey on No. 17 put the match all-square heading to the 18th hole.
On No. 18 Szeryk made a birdie to take the match 1-up.
A junior at Texas A&M, Szeryk defeated the Philippines Francesca Olivarez-Ilas in her morning quarterfinal match.
After eight holes Szeryk was 1-down and yet to win a hole. She got to all-square with a birdie on No. 9 and closed with birdies on 15 and 16 to take the match 3 and 2.
The 20-year-old is coming off a stellar third season with Texas A&M. She set a school record with a 71.24 stroke average and poured in an Aggies record 128 birdies, earning her a First-Team All-American nod.
She will play Dylan Kim (Sacshe, Tex.) the 36-hole final tomorrow.
To reach the quarterfinals Szeryk defeated her Amateur Squad teammate, Naomi Ko (Victoria, B.C.) 2 and 1.
The Team Canada Amateur Squad won the Maschmeyer Cup this week in Elmhurst for the best team performance.

Maddie Szeryk from London, Ont., defeated her Team Canada Amateur Squad teammate Naomi Ko (Victoria, B.C.), 2 and 1 to advance to the quarterfinals of the Women’s Western Amateur Golf Association Championship at River Forest Country Club, in Elmhurst.
Due to inclement weather delaying the tournament the last two days, Ko and Szeryk met in their third match of the day.
Ko jumped out to an early lead and was 2-up after nine holes before struggling on the back nine.
Ko recorded three bogeys and a triple-bogey on the back nine, allowing Szeryk to win four holes and secure her spot in the quarterfinals.

Development Squad’s Mary Parsons, (Delta, B.C.) fell short in her round-of-32 matchup, losing 4 and 3 to Jackie Chulya (Oakland, Calif.).
Ottawa’s Grace St-Germain – a Ko and Szeryk’s Amateur Squad teammate – lost her round-of-32 match to Maddy Rayner (Southlake, Tex.) 2-down.
The round-of-64 wrapped up in the morning after being suspended Wednesday evening due to inclement weather.
St-Germain won her round-of-64 match in 22 holes, defeating Myanmar’s Angela Aung. Szeryk def. Logan Otter (St. Peters, Mo.) 4 and 2 and Ko def. Grace Curran (New Lennox, Ill.) 3 and 2 in her first match of the day.
Tanguay def. the Philippines Mikhaela Fortuna 2 and 1 and Parsons def. Caroline Smith (Inverness, Ill.) 3 and 1 in the round-of-64.
Ip def. Ellie Szeryk, Maddie’s younger sister, 4 and 3 in their round-of-64 matchup.
The fourth member of the Amateur Squad Jaclyn Lee (Victoria, B.C.), was the No. 3 seed in the draw but lost in 23 holes to Rayner in the round-of-64.
Lee can hang her hat on the Amateur Team winning the Maschmeyer Cup Team competition trophy.

Due to inclement weather only one Canadian completed their round-of-64 match at the Women’s Western Golf Association Championship on Wednesday at River Forest Country Club in Elmhurst, Ill.
Development Squad member and No. 17 seed Monet Chun (Richmond Hill, Ont.) fell 1-down to Cecily Overbey (High Point, N.C.).
Chun held a 2-up lead heading to hole No. 16 but Overbey closed with three straight birdies while Chun recorded a bogey, double-bogey, and a par.
When play was officially suspended at 6:58 p.m. local time after two weather delays Delta B.C., native Mary Parsons from the Development Squad was 1-up through nine on Caroline Smith (Inverness, Ill.)
All four Team Canada Amateur Squad golfers had matches in progress when play was suspended.
London, Ont., product Maddie Szeryk is all square through nine against Logan Otter (St. Peters, Mo.), and Victoria, B.C.’s Naomi Ko is 5-up through nine against Grace Curran (New Lennox, Ill.)

Team Canada continues to impress at the Women’s Western Golf Association Championship with Amateur Squad teammates Maddie Szeryk and Jaclyn Lee moving into a tie for second at 1 under par after 36 holes at River Forest Country Club in Elmhurst, Ill.
Szeryk started the day T7 at 1 over par. She recorded five birdies and three bogeys on Tuesday to card a 2-under-par 70 and move to within one shot of leader Allisen Corpuz (Waipahu, Hawaii).
The London, Ont., native just finished her third year at Texas A&M, earning a First-Team All-American nod and finishing fourth in the nation with a season stroke average of 71.24 – helping her to nine top-10 finishes in 12 events.
Lee, started the day in a tie for fourth and the Calgarian had five birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey to post 1-under-par 71.
The Ohio State sophomore was the Buckeyes best player this season, leading the team with a season stroke average of 73.71 and five top-10 finishes.
Delta, B.C., product and Development Squad Rookie Mary Parsons is T5 at even par (72-72). The 18-year-old is coming off a win at the Future Links driven by Acura Pacific Championship in May.
Szeryk and Lee’s Amateur Squad teammate Naomi Ko (Victoria, B.C.) is T14 at 6 over par after a second-round 77 (+5) and Parsons Development Squad teammate Monet Chun (Richmond Hill, Ont.) is T17 at +7 after a 4-over-par 76 in round two.
The fourth member of Team Canada’s Amateur Squad, Grace St-Germain (Ottawa, Ont.), is T29 at 9 over par alongside Jessica Ip (Richmond Hill, Ont.).
Ellie Szeryk – Maddie’s 15-year-old sister – is T32 at 10 over par. Valerie Tanguay (Saint-Hyacinthe, Que.) is T51 (+14).
Sarah Beqaj (Toronto, Ont.) is part of a 12-women playoff for the final spots in the championship flight after a two-day total of 159 (+15).
64 women will advance to the match-play portion of the tournament.
