Amateur Squad’s Jaclyn Lee def. Kennedy Swann (Austin, Tex.) 4 and 3 to advance to the round of 16 at the North and South Women’s Amateur Championship at Pinehurst No. 2 in Pinehurst, N.C.
The Calgary product never trailed in the match jumping out to an early lead on the second hole and leading 1-up through nine. Lee went on to win holes No. 11, 12, 14, and 15 to knock off Swann.
A four-year veteran of Team Canada, Lee is the No. 2 seed in the 32-player match play draw after finishing T2 in the two rounds of stroke play qualifying.
The Ohio State Buckeye will face Australia’s Julienne Soo in the second round later today. Soo def. Elle Nachmenn in 19 holes in the round of 32.

Development Squad’s Monet Chun carded a 1-under-par 71 in the opening round of the Investors Group Ontario Women’s Amateur to sit T2 at Galt Country Club in Cambridge, Ont.
Unionville, Ont., native Kelsey Sear is leading the way at 3 under par after opening-round 69 powered by five birdies.
Chun (Richmond Hill, Ont.) recorded five birdies, two bogeys, and a double-bogey in Tuesday’s first round to sit two shots back of Sear alongside Madeline Marck-Sherk (Ridgeway, Ont.).
The 16-year-old Chun is enjoying a successful season rookie year on the Team Canada Development Squad.
Chun won the 2017 Future Links driven by Acura Ontario Championship at Brockville Country Club in May, and the Summit Golf and Country Club member recorded an impressive ninth place finish at the Ladies Porter Cup in June.
Chun’s Development Squad teammate Chloe Currie is T4 at 1 over par. Currie, 17, carded a 73 in round one to sit four shots back of Sear alongside Sarah Beqaj (Toronto), Victoria Zheng (Markham, Ont.) Courtney Tolton (Mitchell, Ont.) and Danielle Sawyer (Grafton, Ont.).
Currie, from Mississauga, Ont., was T5 at the 2017 Future Links driven by Acura Ontario Championship and is the defending Ontario Junior Girls champion.

Calgary’s Jaclyn Lee carded a 1-over-par 72 in Wednesday’s second round of the Women’s North and South Championship to finish T2 in stroke play, advancing to the match play portion of the tournament.
The famed Pinehurst No. 2 lived up to its reputation as one of the stiffest tests in golf on Tuesday with every golfer in the field—except medallist Kristen Gillman (Austin, Tex.)—finishing over par for the day.
Lee, a Team Canada Amateur Squad member, recorded two birdies and three bogeys to finish tied for second at 4 over par with Norman, Okla., native Yujeong Son—two shots back of Gillman who was 2 over par for the championship (73-71).
At the Women’s Western Amateur Championship in June, Lee was the No. 3 seed after 36 holes of stroke play but lost in the first round of match play to Maddie Rayner (Southlake, Tex.) in 23 holes.
Amateur Squad’s Naomi Ko (Victoria, B.C.) and teammate Grace St-Germain (Ottawa) failed to qualify for the match play, finishing T56 (+19) and T70 (+22), respectively.
Valerie Tangauy from Saint-Hyacinthe, Que., finished T33 at 13 over par (71-84) missing a spot in match play by one stroke.
Development Squad rookie and Delta, B.C., product Mary Parsons will also be heading home after two rounds with a T75 finish at 24 over par.
The fourth member of Team Canada’s Amateur Squad, Maddie Szeryk (London, Ont.), withdrew from the tournament after being notified she had gained entry into the 2017 U.S. Women’s Open as an alternate.

Team Canada Amateur Squad member Maddie Szeryk has made it into the 2017 U.S. Women’s Open at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J., from July 13-16 after being named an alternate for her performance at the Fort Worth, Tex., qualifier in May.
As a result, the London, Ont., resident has withdrawn from the prestigious North and South Women’s Amateur Championship in Pinehurst, N.C., where she was playing alongside Team Canada teammates Jaclyn Lee, Naomi Ko, and Grace St-Germain.
“This is a very exciting opportunity for Maddie, who has been playing some of her best golf of late—collecting two wins in June,” said Team Canada Women’s Head Coach, Tristan Mullally. “Taking on the world’s best in her first LPGA major will be a memorable test for Maddie, and we’re looking forward to an exciting week.”
Szeryk won the 117th Women’s Western Amateur Championship from June 12-17 becoming the first Canadian to win the highly regarded event and took home the B.C. Women’s Amateur Championship from June 27-30.
Heading into her senior year at Texas A&M Szeryk already has her name all over the Aggies record books. She poured in a school record 128 birdies in her junior year and holds the Texas A&M record for under par rounds with 63.
Szeryk joins Brooke Henderson of Smiths Falls, Ont. and Hamilton’s Alena Sharp as the third Canadian in the field at the 2017 U.S. Women’s Open.

Team Canada Young Pro Squad’s Corey Conners carded a 3-under-par 69 in the final round of the oWeb.com Tour’s LECOM Health Challenge to finish T9 at 14 under par at the Peek N’ Peak Resort Upper Course in Findley Lake, NY.
Conners, from Listowel, Ont., had four consecutive rounds in the 60s finishing nine shots back of Chesson Hadley (Raleigh, N.C.) who was 23 under par.
This is Conners third top-10 this season on the Web.com Tour. He made his U.S. Open debut at Erin Hills in June. He moved up to 37th on the Web.com Tour’s Order of Merit with his finish.
Conners’ Young Pro Squad teammate Albin Choi (Toronto, Ont.) was T18 after a 2-under-par 70 in the final round.(
Ryan Yip, a product of Calgary, Alta., was T6 to start the day rounds and carded a 2-over-par 74 in round to finish T29.

On Friday Team Canada’s Hugo Bernard won medallist honours at the York, Maine, qualifier at The Ledges Golf Club to book his ticket to the 2017 U.S. Amateur at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif., and Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles, Calif. from Aug. 14-20.
The Mont-St-Hilaire, Que., product played 36 holes in 4 under par (71-69), three strokes clear of Montreal native Joey Savoie whose 1 under par 143 secured the second qualifying spot available.
Bernard has had some impressive finishes in 2017. He was T7 at the South American Amateur in January and T9 at the 2017 Terra Cotta Invitational. Most recently he was tied for third at the Murat Cup International Men’s Championship of France in May.
Savoie finished tied for second at the prestigious Monroe Invitational in June. A senior at Middle Tennessee University Savoie had a 72.1 stroke average this season with the Blue Raiders.
Richmond, B.C., product Cris Crisologo won medallist honours at the Cle Elum, Wash., qualifier at 4 under par (69-71) at Rope Rider Golf Course on July 6 to book his ticket to the U.S. Amateur.

Conners, from Listowel, Ont., had six birdies and just one bogey to card his third consecutive round in the 60s and sit five shots back of Chesson Headley (Raleigh, N.C.) who’s bogey free 8-under-par 64 put him in solo first at 16 under par.
The six-year Team Canada veteran has two top-10s this season on the Web.com Tour. He made his U.S. Open debut at Erin Hills in June. He is currently ranked 43rd on the Web.com Tour’s Order of Merit.
Yip, a product of Calgary, Alta., was T5 after two rounds and carded a 2-under-par 70 in round three. He is looking for his second top-10 finish of the 2017 Web.com season.
A member of the inaugural Team Canada National Team in 2005, Yip came to Findley Lake ranked 100th on the Web.com Tour’s Order of Merit.
Team Canada Young Pro Squad golfer Albin Choi (Toronto, Ont.) is T15 after a 4-under-par 68 in round three. His best finish this season was a T5 at the rain shortened BMW Charity Classic presented by Synnex Corporation.

Team Canada’s Max Sekulic carded a final round 1-under-par 71 to move to 5-under-par for the tournament and win the Alberta Junior Boys Championship at Coal Creek Golf Resort in Ryley, Alta. His Development Squad teammate Chandler McDowell was third.
Sekulic from Rycroft, Alta., had five birdies and four bogeys to finish one stroke ahead of Matt Bean (Canmore, Alta.) who carded a final round even par 72.
Sekulic, 18, was 12th at the Future Links driven by Acura Pacific Championship in May and finished sixth at the 2016 Canadian Junior Boys Championship.
McDowell, a native of Springbrook, Alta., had the lowest score of the final round with a 3-under-par 69 to finish at 3-under-par for the championship.
In solo fourth was Kai Iguchi from Banff, Alta., who’s 1-under par 287 four day score was good enough to secure him the 16-and-under Juvenile Championship.
Rounding out the top-five was Pincher Creek, Alta., product Ethan Choi who was even par for the tournament.

Richmond B.C.’s Alisha Lau ran away with the B.C. Junior Girls Championship finishing at 9-under-par 10 strokes clear of Maple Ridge, B.C.’s Esther Lee (+1). Development Squad’s Hannah Lee was third at 5 over par (293).
Lau started strong with opening rounds of 67 and 68 building a lead she wouldn’t relinquish over four days at the Okanagan Golf Club’s Bear Course in Okanagan, B.C.
Rounding out the top five was fourth place finisher Karen Zhang also from Richmond at 6 over par and Surrey, B.C.,’s Angel Lin who was 9 over par for the championship.
In her second year on the Development Squad Lee, from Surrey, B.C., was consistent from start to finish recording three straight rounds of 1-over par 73 and closing with a 2-over-par 74.
The 16-year-old had an impressive 9th place finish at the Women’s Porter Cup in June and was tenth at the Future Links driven by Acura Pacific Championship in May.
Lee was second at this event in 2016 and won the 2016 B.C. Juvenile Girls Championship.

Team Canada Young Pro Squad golfer Albin Choi carded an opening round 6-under-par 66 at the Web.com Tour’s LECOM Health Challenge to sit T4 through 18 holes at the Peek N’ Peak Resort Upper Course in Findley Lake, N.Y.
The Toronto product started the day with five straight birdies and was bogey free for the rest of his round carding one more birdie to sit two shots back of the leader China’s Xinjun Zhang.
Choi came to Findley Lake ranked 89th on the Web.com Tour’s Order of Merit. His best result of the season was a T5 at the rain shortened BMW Charity Classic presented by Synnex Corporation.
Choi’s Young Pro Squad teammate Corey Conners (Listowel, Ont.) is T25 at 3 under par after an opening-round 69 (-3), alongside Calgary’s Ryan Yip, and Ben Silverman (Thornhill, Ont.).
Merritt, B.C., native Roger Sloan is T47 (-2).
There are 11 Canadians in the field this week.
