Anita Blanchette, Miskanaw, Hole #4

Thanks so much!

Yes, it was a great day!

I was playing with my husband, Kim Blanchette, and our good friends, Rob and Lorraine Zacharias. Hole #4 was the special hole at 125 yards. I used a 6 iron. It landed on the collar, rolled around the ridge that the flag was on and right into the hole! The guys were saying, “it’s heading for the hole!” but they’ve said that before, so I missed the entire thing as I was thinking yeah right and bent down to pick up my tee when they shouted “It’s in! It’s in!” There was a lot of whooping and hollering for sure! Rob and Lorraine were so excited, they were telling everyone and messaged Chris at the pro shop to let him know.

This is actually my second hole-in-one. My first was also at Miskanaw on July 14, 2006, on hole #8 before the course was redone. This one was about 165 yards, and I used my 3 wood. None of us saw the ball drop in the hole so we were looking everywhere for it. Finally, I said, I’m going to check the cup and there it was! So, this is extra special as most people aren’t fortunate enough to get even one in a lifetime and I’ve had two!

Thanks again!

Anita

Chuck Robertson, Kelowna Golf & Country Club, Hole #9

I was pretty excited as was my friend, Ian Dawson, so he videos the ball pickup. Tony, however, didn’t skip a beat, just continued on with his game. Happens all the time, right Tony.

Jacob Green, Predator Ridge, Hole #8

Thanks guys! Was a surreal experience for sure! I was playing with Kevin Morgan, Maisun Ang-Hamilton and Liam Williamson. The yardage was about 180 to the centre of the green and I was using a 5 hybrid. Ball went right off the face of the club and bounced off a hill probably 20 yards to the right of the pin, kicked straight left and rolled right in.

Thanks,

Jacob

Karl Nielsen, Baxter Creek Golf Club, Hole #12

Thanks for the congratulatory message. Very kind of you guys at Golf Canada.

I was playing with a friend, Bob Nicholson. He’s in my regular Saturday/Sunday game, although he was on holidays, so it was a Tuesday when this happened. The hole was playing 155 yards and I hit 7 iron.

Cheers,

Karl

Oswald Ricketts, Smugglers Glen Golf Course, Hole #10

It was on the 10th hole at Smugglers Glen Golf Course. I was playing in the 28th year of the Boland Cup Tournament with many old buddies. It was a very windy day, so I used a longer than usual club, a 7 iron. I scuffed it, it hit the front of the green and just continued to roll and then slowly disappeared into the hole. My playing partners were Glen Fast, Dr. Steve White and Tom Wightman.

Alexander Heuton, Sleepy Hollow, Hole #3

Thanks for the note. I was playing with one of my usual playing partners and fellow member, Conrad Hansuld. We were playing hole number 3 at Sleepy Hollow from the back tees. The pin was front left. I gunned the flag at 176 yards, but we were hitting dead into the wind. I took a 6 iron and hit a soft draw that landed a few feet short of the hole. It took one hop, then rolled into the cup.

I have been playing for decades and have come close many times, but this was my first hole-in-one. It was quite a rush!

Anisur Salim, Dentonia Park Golf Course, Hole #1

Occurred on July 30th at Dentonia Park Golf Course. Hole-in-one happened at hole # 1, using a 56-degree wedge.

Thanks,

Anisur

Brad Beghetto, Transcona Golf Club, Hole #16

130 yards. 9 iron.

Brent Choi, Coppinwood, Hole #7

Thank you for your note. It’s awesome you do this. I was with Mark Applebaum! It was 138 yards into the sun. Used an 8 iron on hole 7 of Coppinwood. Funny that I had a great front 9, partially in thanks to the hole-in-one, but fell apart on the back 9 as I lost the ability to hit the fairway.

Brent Jewett, Kingswood Signature, Hole #17

Thanks for reaching out.

I was playing with three close friends: Jason Billing, Shaun Davis and Rob McNeelands.

The 17th hole at the Kingswood Signature Golf Course is considered a difficult par 3 over water to a large undulating green protected by water and two bunkers on the left and large mounds (for those who choose to bail out) on the right.

I had just flushed a 4-iron on previous hole, so coming into hole #17, I was feeling pretty good about my long-iron play. When I got to the elevated tee on 17, a steady breeze was coming from right to left and the pin was tucked toward the back of the green on a downslope. I lasered 184 yards to the pin, with about a 175-yard carry to the middle of the green. I pulled my 5-iron out of the bag, aimed at the right side of the green and hit a slight draw which the wind carried over toward my landing point in the middle of the green. It then slowly started making its way down to the hole (which we could see from the elevated tee). Then, about three seconds later, we all watched it disappear into the cup – boom! – just like that – my first hole-in-one!

Sincerely,

Brent Jewett

Brian Martin, Sirocco Golf Club, Hole #5

Hole #5 was playing 119 yards from the white tees. I used my 9 iron to card my first ever ace. I was playing with Gord Wagner, Larry Taylor and Tony Goutbeck

It was a real thrill. I hope I don’t have to wait over 50 years for my next one.

Byron Rokeby-Thomas, Balfour Golf Course, Hole #7

Thank you! I was playing with Shaun O’Connor who is also from Nelson. It was from the blue tees on hole #7. I believe it’s about 140 yards and I used a pitching wedge.

Cameron Bartling, Beach Grove Golf Club, Hole #16

Thank you for reaching out.

Saturday was truly fantastic getting my first hole-in-one. The hole was playing 132 yards and I hit a 9 iron.

The guys I was playing with were Syd Sharp, David Gilliland and Richard Langhammer.

Thanks again for reaching out.

Cam Bartling

Cooper Anderson, Fort William Country Club, Hole #2

Thank you. Playing partners were Dan Speer and Brian Sippila. I used a 9 iron, and the yardage was 154 yards.

Dan Klimas, Rosemere Fontainebleau, Hole #13

It was from 155 yards using a 6 iron. I was playing with another member, Norm Hacker, as well as two guests, Dylan Hacker and Tyler Rothstein. It was a great day and experience. This makes four holes-in-one in my 45 years of playing, three of which were at my club, Rosemere Fontainebleau, on three different par 3’s (holes 4, 6, and 13) and one at Mount Bruno in Quebec.

Thank you,

Dan Klimas

Daniel Boire, Darcy Ranch Golf Club, Hole #12

Happened June 25th. Playing with my friend, Ryan, and two others we were paired with. 155 yards so I used my 9 iron. Thanks for reaching out!

David Munro, Caledon Woods Golf Club, Hole #13

Thank you for your kind words.

I play from the green tees (combination of the white and red teams) and have played from these tees for a couple of years now. I only started playing golf at 60 years old (am now 75). I never had great distance, and it’s getting more difficult to get to the green every year.

My favourite club in my bag is a ping 6 hybrid, seiners flex. The par three I made the hole-in-one on is 110 yards, and while I could make that distance with a 7 iron, I chose the 6 hybrid, because the wind was in our face and because it is my most accurate club. I chose the 6 hybrid, and I choke down on it a little, put the ball back in my stance and I get height and accuracy, and this time I got extreme accuracy. Playing partners were John Giancola, Rodney Maltais and Darwin Gauthier.

You have my permission to quote, if for no other reason, than to encourage high handicapped players, to not give as they get older, just move to the appropriate tees.

Derek Janzen, Fairview Mountain Golf Club, Hole #10

I would like to post for one of my buddies.

Derek Janzen made a hole-in-one on number 10 at Fairview Mountain Golf Club in Oliver, B.C. It was playing 145 yards. He hit a thin 8 iron which landed just short of the hole and rolled into the cup.

Cheers,

Jason, on behalf of Derek Janzen

Frank Pinilla, Summit, Hole #2

Hi there, thanks for this!

I was playing with some of our “weekend morning regulars” (about 10 of us that switch around depending on schedules). My playing partners that morning were Mark O, Scott L and Enrique G.

This was on the 2nd hole at Summit, and we scoped the pin at 167 yards, an easy 6-iron for me (which was perfect in hindsight!). I was first to tee it up and had an easy swing that tracked nicely with my fade, the ball hit near the middle of the green and tracked up and left towards the back, left pin.

We were playing into the morning sun so it was hard to see but it was looking really good when we couldn’t see the ball sitting on the green. What clinched it for us was that the rest of our morning regular group, who were up on the 3rd tee, started yelling loudly! I grabbed my range finder to have a better look (we couldn’t really tell if they were yelling that “ooooh, it just lipped out” or “whoa, it’s in the hole”) – but that confirmed it…lots of high-fives and hands in the air! Plus, a round of beers for the boys after the round, on me!

What a fun start to the round!

Cheers,

Frank Pinilla

Janice McCarthy, Pointe West Golf Course, Hole #2

My hole-in-one was in #2 at Pointe West Golf Course during our weekly Ladies League.

My foursome consisted of: Jan Groulx, Mary Harris and Alice Saunders.

I used a 9 iron to a middle pin placement that was about 95 yards away with a slight breeze into us.

Thanks,

Janice McCarthy

John Whelan, Shelburne, Hole #11

Thank you for the recognition. I have been playing golf for a little over 50 years now (I am 73), and while I have come close on many occasions, this was my first hole-in-one. I was on the 11th hole at Shelburne, playing with Morgan Rutledge, about 120 yards, using an 8 iron. When the shot landed, it looked to be about 2-3 feet short and I am thinking an easy birdie, then it disappeared into the hole. Funny enough, after so many years of playing golf, my initial reaction was disbelief, and later relief that I could finally cross that accomplishment off.

Golf is such a fun sport, so unpredictable, rewarding in many ways and always looking forward to the next outing.

John Whelan

Jordan Harding, Flamborough Hills Golf Course, Hole #1

I recently had my first hole-in-one at Flamborough Hills Golf Course on June 27th. It was on my 10th hole (hole #1 on the hills course) Par 4! 315 yards. I was playing with my friend, Chris, and another member which we had just met that day on the first hole. Not only was this my first hole in one it was also my first albatross. ?

Keith Richards, Mickelson National, Hole #15

I was playing golf with my girlfriend, friend, Drew, and a fourth fill named Rafi. It was an 8 iron from 170 yards. Tight little draw, couple hops and in the hole.

Cheers,

Keith

Kevin Galandy, Country Hills Golf Club, Hole #14

Hole #14 at the Country Hills, Ridge course. Played tips (gold box), 161 yards, knockdown 7 iron into a strong wind.

Also, playing in the club championship. Playing partners were Aaron Ma and Chan Woo Lee.

Went on to win the 2nd flight by 6 strokes.

Cheers,

Kevin

Len Teichroeb, Fairview Mountain, Hole #7

Thanks so much.

Wednesday, July 20th 2022. Hole #7. Par 3. This particular day was a blue pin location (back of the green). Approximately 168 yards. Taylormade M2 19 degree Hybrid club and my Taylormade TP5 ball. Playing with my regulars, Rich Engel and Phil Anderson (missing that day was Jerry Duteil). Picture perfect day for golf, which we have at Fairview a lot.

Amazing course. Expertly directed by our staff of General Manager, Brian McDonald, and head pro, Rob Tadey, and all the rest of our amazing staff.

If you have never had the chance to come and play our course, it’s a “must play” whenever the opportunity might arise.

Thanks again for the email.

Linda Gray, Country Hills Golf Club, Hole #12

Thank you for the lovely email congratulating me for my hole-in-one last week. It is truly one of the most incredible feelings to experience.

It was a gorgeous day, and we had a slight wind in our faces. It was a back right pin and the distance was 137 yards. The green slopes towards us at that location, so I used my trusty 7 wood. I had one of those swings where everything clicked in to place you could feel the smooth tempo. In fact, I was in such good position, I lost sight of the ball until it hit the green. The ball ran up the green past the pin and then took the slope and rolled into the hole. It was fantastic. What a feeling! This is definitely one for my bucket list.

It was Ladies Day, and I had the pleasure of golfing with some fabulous ladies; Patty Condon, Lesley Cooney-Burk and Barb Sigalet.

Thanks again and have an awesome day. It is Ladies Day again and I am heading to the course.

Sincerely,

Linda Gray

Linda Stickney, Crown Isle, Hole #16

Thank you for the graphic for my hole-in-one. I would love to share the event. #16 at Crown Isle is all carry over water 107 yards to a back right pin. I used a choked down Adams 6 hybrid and a Srixon soft feel ball #1. The #1 must be a good sign. Two hops on the green and in the hole. My playing partners, Violet Erskine and Lesley McFarlane, and I all saw the ball go in the hole. Some very loud hurrahs from all of us.

This is my second ace with the first being at Apache Wells Country Club in Mesa, Arizona.

Lyle Dickson, Richmond Country Club, Hole #12

Was playing with three fellow Richmond Country Club members – David Hinton, Pat O’Brien and Duncan Mackenzie. Hole was playing 175 yards and we did not really see the ball go in, hence had the putter in hand as thought it was at the back of the green but that was Duncan’s ball and mine was in the hole. Used a 4 hybrid club as 175 is a long par three for an old guy.

Lyle Dickson

Mark Burrell, Glen Cedars Golf Club, Hole #14

Thanks for the email. Hole was playing 142 yards and I used a wedge. I was playing with Gordon Chilton and Donny Grogan.

Mark Jones, Calabogie Highlands Golf Club, Hole #8

Thank you very much.

I was playing in our Men’s league. Was 159 yards to the pin and I used a 6 iron.

Thanks,Mark

Mike Cowie, Carnoustie Golf Club, Hole #8

Hi. I’m Mike Cowie and I got a hole-in-one on #8 at the championship course at Carnoustie. It was 165 yards and I used and 8 iron. I was with fellow Canadian member Marc Laatu when it happened. The date was July 16th 2022.

Mitch Gillingwater, Moncton Golf and Country Club, Hole #12

Thanks for reaching out, very exciting moment for sure!

It was a great day at Moncton Golf and Country Club. I hit a 5 iron from the blue tees with hole #12 playing 195 yards.

I played with two of my best friends, Steve McLaughlin and Gerard Reinders, along with Steve’s father, Pat. Moncton Golf and Country Club was my home course growing up, I started playing there when I was 11 years old, must have played hundreds of rounds there. I now live in Toronto and get back to New Brunswick with my wife and two young sons once a summer to visit family and get a round or two in with friends. Amazing trip home!

Nick LaPointe, Country Meadows, Hole #10

Thanks for the email. It was something I never thought I would accomplish.

It started off somewhat of a normal Saturday morning tee time, we usually have the first two tee times of the morning (7:00am and 7:10am). I’m usually at the course by 5:30am, however today I was running late and went right to the tee box. I was in the first group with Michael Boudrea, Brian Duff and Daniel Hebert. The round for myself was scrappy, shooting 6 over on the front 9. We got to the 10th hole, and I was second in line to tee off. The flag measured 147 yards on a slightly elevated tee to a front pin location on the Champion (blue) tees. I proceeded to hit a soft and controlled 9 iron which was executed as I pictured it, the ball’s trajectory was high and tracking towards the flag with a neutral flight, one bounce and rolled towards the cup until we couldn’t see if anymore. Brian thought it was sitting behind the pin. Since it was in the shadows, I verified with my range finder that it wasn’t on the green and must have gone in the hole.

Celebration isn’t my thing, so it was a gentleman’s handshake from my playing partners once we got on the green and verified it was at the bottom of the cup and moved on. Then it hit me…I was now 4 over with 8 to play and I wasn’t going to have a hole-in-one and shoot in the 80’s. The nerves kicked in knowing I had to put in a good back 9. Well, I managed to finish with 2 bogeys, 2 birdies, and 4 pars for a 4 over round of 76.

That’s the story. Just a beautifully executed controlled soft 9 iron from 147 yards.

Cheers,

Nick

Paul Woodward, Arrowsmith Golf Course, Hole #13

Well, it was a beautiful day for a round of golf and my wife decided to join me. We headed out to Arrowsmith Golf Course on Vancouver Island where I have been a member for a year and a half now. The scenery is spectacular, and the course is well kept and very challenging, especially the greens that always seem to slope opposite to your putt!

We were grouped together with Dan and Sandy, local golf enthusiasts that try to get out a couple times a week. It was on the 13th tee box that a once in 40-year occasion was set up. The flag was at the back of the green on the top tier making it impossible to see the hole. The book distance was 151 yards from the blue tee off, being at the back figured at least 160 to the hole. I cleaned the 7 iron leaned into the swing and let it fly. I remember thinking that it looked really good, nice high apex dropping onto the top tier slightly left of the pin.

Dan’s tee shot also made the top, but we could see his ball at the edge of the top tier. My wife, Denise, and Sandy made good tee shots but didn’t make the green. The lady’s made their second shots and now everyone was on the green. As I walked up to the top tier, I saw Dan’s ball but no sign of mine, so I automatically walked to the back edge to see if it had rolled past and down the back of the green. When I didn’t spot the ball, Denise said look in the hole and in absolute disbelief there it was, wow first ever “ace”.

I can only hope the next one comes sooner! I golfed occasionally in Alberta but after moving here two years ago, I average a couple games a week so I hope the odds are way better that I will cut the 40-year streak down to a couple years! It’s a tough but great game and I’m looking forward to a repeat performance.

Richard Betkowski, Highlands Golf Course, Hole #3

Hi! Richard calling from Highlands Golf Course (HGC) in Edmonton, Alberta.

HGC opened on April 24th this year. I shot my first round on the 25th and while shooting my 2nd on the 26th, I aced the 3rd hole, 197 yards with a 3 metal and Srixon Soft Feel!

Watched it tracking and it was on a good line. Arriving at the hole with putter and chipper in hand, I went ball hunting. My fellow members were chipping onto the green, and I figured I went through the green not seeing my ball on the green. Checked the back of the green, nothing. Walked back to the hole and low and behold, my third ace!

Ron Gerlitz, DJ Coppens and John Keaveny were there to witness!

#3 on the 3rd!

Golf is the best ‘social event’ ever!

Ciao!

Richard Betkowski

Richard Penney, Forest City National, Hole #7

Thanks.

Playing partners: Steve Irwin, Zaya Lazar and Myron Hladyniuk.

Hole yardage: 163 yards to pin.

Club used: 7 iron.

Ross Lynd, Harvest Golf Club, Hole #16

It certainly was an exciting day! Our 16th is a steep uphill 151-yard hole from the white tee. I hit a 5 hybrid and as it landed at the front of the green, everyone in the group said, ‘that should be close’! Once arriving at the top of the hill no ball was in sight, so the excitement started to build. Playing partners Ross Shipley and Grant Cooper were the first to the hole and immediately raised their arms. Third playing partner, Doug Campbell, joined me in a cheer before congratulations all around.

It is my second hole-in-one having one on the 15th hole on the Melfort Golf and Country Club in 2001.

Thanks again.

Stephen Colford, Clovelly, Hole #7

Hi,

It is my 5th hole-in-one.

It was on the 7th hole at Clovelly which was measuring 141 yards long on Sunday. I hit a 7 iron into the wind. The ball hit just before the pin and one hopped into the hole. The ball mark can be seen in the picture.  I was playing with Charlie Follett, Ted Kwon and Peter Furlong.

Steve Colford

Stewart Storie, The Okanagan Golf Club, Hole #4

Playing with my wife, Gloria Heung-Storie, and Charles and Bill, Okanagan GC members. 157 yards. Used a 6 iron.

Tommy Schurman, The Old Course at St Andrews, Hole #8

Hi there,

We did a guy’s golf trip to Scotland this past May of 2022. Peter Dunphy, Brian Francoeur, Mark Francoeur and I played 11 different courses in 11 days and one of them being…The Old Course in St. Andrews. May 26th to be exact.

I had never been to Scotland before, so obviously it was also my first time playing the most famous golf course in the world…“The Home of Golf”!

Our foursome teed off around 3:00 pm local time and she was “a wee bit windy” that day. I can still remember asking my caddy what he would shoot on a day like today as he was a 40-year-old local and scratch handicap. He said, “I wouldn’t be playing in this!”. He also told me that if the greens were mowed at the height of when The Open Championship would be playing there in July, they would suspend the round as the ball wouldn’t be able to come to rest. Which is scary because I thought the speed of the greens that day was pretty freakin’ fast! Conditions were tough to say the least, but at least it wasn’t raining on top of it all. It was still a comfortable temperature to play as long as you dressed for it.

Going along fairly steady for the first 7 holes. Get up on the par 3 eighth hole which is playing about 160 yards that day. Wind is howling out of the right and slightly helping. I’m last to hit in our group and I watch how all the balls seem to roll forever once they land on the green. Not that it really mattered as it’s basically just “hit and hope” in that kind of wind! I hit an 8 iron a tad thin, but in the direction I was aiming (way out to the right). After contact was made, my playing partners and all the caddies began to walk towards the green. I hung back waiting to see it as there was some longer fescue grass between the tee and green. Sure enough, that little white ball started rolling towards the back pin. It seemed to roll forever as I stood there watching it.

All of the sudden, it disappeared and for a split second I wasn’t sure if it went in or off the back. But, luckily there was a golfer and caddy directly behind our green playing the 10th hole as it shares with #8. The golfer and his caddy both raised their arms in the air at the same time as the ball disappeared…and then my arms went up…and then all chaos broke loose! I really don’t remember much from that point until the video starts up on the green when I go to pick the ball out of the hole.

There has not been a day that goes by that I ask myself, “Did that really happen?” because something like that…making an “ace” at the Home of Golf….is stuff out of dreamland.

Tyler Horning, Wildfire Golf Club, Hole #3

It was a very exciting moment. A bucket list item I was fortunate enough to experience.

I was playing with my father, Paul Horning, as well as Kenneth Michael Kelly and Pierre Hoppener. The card reads 113 yards from the whites. I used an 8 iron. Pin on the right side of the green over sand traps. Ball landed on the green about 8 feet from the hole, one hopped, and rolled straight into the hole.

Regards,

Tyler Horning

Velma MacLean, Stanhope, Hole #10

Thank-you! I am very happy with my hole-in-one!

I was playing with two friends, Rosemary MacArthur and Kimberly Ellis, at our home course, Stanhope Golf and Country Club, in PEI.

It was #10 hole which is 135 yards. I used my #3 Mavrik hybrid. It was a red flag! I hit the sweet spot on the club and the ball hit the front of the green, rolled up to the flag and then the ball disappeared. I was sort of speechless. My friends were more excited than I was! I was in disbelief until I picked it out of the hole!

I recently purchased my final couple of Mavrik irons so now I have a complete set and I absolutely love my “Callaway Mavrik clubs”.

When I retired in 2017, I started golfing, took lessons from our Pro, Shannon Grinton, and got hooked on this sport! I play at least 100 rounds a season and love it!

Thanks again!

Velma MacLean

Titia Born, Valley Ridge Golf Club, Hole #7

It was Valley Ridge Ladies Night with a shotgun start. I was the first to lead off my group on our starting hole #7, and I sunk it. About 120 yards with an 8 iron.

Titia Born

Vincent West, Fairmont Le Château Montebello, Hole #6

Good day,

Thank you for reaching out, the hole-in-one was quite the experience.

I was with Miguel Laurin, Phillipe Drouin, and Gabriel Laurin. We were playing golf for my bachelor party.

Just before the golf shot, I remember saying “somebody should film our par 3’s in case someone gets a hole-in-one” but unfortunately, we did not film the shot.

The par 3 was hole #6 and I was playing from the white markers. The yardage was approximately 130 yards, and I used my pitching wedge. My golf ball went passed the pin and then back spined into the hole.

Thank you,

Vincent West

Each week we write to Golf Canada members who record a hole-in-one, congratulating them and asking if they’d tell us how it happened. These are their stories (edited for length and clarity).

Clark Johannson, Elbow Springs Golf Club, Hole #3

It was epic.

It was a beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon, and I was enjoying a round of golf with my 17-year-old son Will and another guest couple at Elbow Springs here in Calgary. We approached the 3rd hole, par 3 on the Mountain Course and could see the flag was at the back of the green. We scoped the distance, and it was about 172 yards. My son went first and had a great tee shot. He was about 10 feet from the pin, so I felt confident in the distance. I had my trusted Taylor Made Sim 7 iron and as I was taking a practice swing, I could tell my swing felt a little tight. I decided to aim a little left of the flag to allow for a fade, expecting that I wouldn't get a full rotation. I had a solid connection and, as predicted, the ball was fading slightly. It landed left of the pin in the middle of the green and started to roll toward the hole. It seemed like it was moving fast, and we were so far away we couldn't tell if it was short or long. Then suddenly it just disappeared.

I looked at my son and we both were shocked. We started cheering and laughing in disbelief. You see, I'm 55 years old and have been golfing since I was 8. I've never had or even seen a hole-in-one. My father, who taught me to play and was an avid golfer, went his whole life without getting a hole-in-one. It was a fantastic moment and I'm so glad I was able to share it with my son.

Jeanette Szmiett, White Squirrel Golf Course, Hole #2

I shot a hole-in-one July 19, 2022, at White Squirrel Golf Course on hole #2. It was 87 yards from the forward tee with my 7 iron.

Mack Keay, Northview, Hole #5

Northview Ridge Course, hole #5, from the blue tees, about 170 yards, downhill. I hit an 8 iron.

Derek Janzen, Fairview Mountain Golf Club, Hole #10

I would like to post for one of my buddies.

Derek Janzen made a hole-in-one on number 10 at Fairview Mountain Golf Club in Oliver, B.C. It was playing 145 yards. He hit a thin 8 iron which landed just short of the hole and rolled into the cup.

Cheers,

My hole-in-one was in #2 at Pointe West Golf Course during our weekly Ladies League.

My foursome consisted of: Jan Groulx, Mary Harris and Alice Saunders.

I used a 9 iron to a middle pin placement that was about 95 yards away with a slight breeze into us.

Wayne Lauzon, Ambassador Golf Club, Hole #8

I was playing with Gerry Desjardins and Joe Craig. It was 134 yards against a one club wind. So, I hit a knockdown 8 iron. One bounce and in.

Yuri Mykolyk, Islington Golf Club, Hole #10

It was just another beautiful day at the club. It was on the 10th hole. 179 yards to the hole. Took my 5 iron out and took a nice easy swing, ball hitting the sweet spot on the iron. From there it was history. I believe Loris mentioned to the group to watch the ball, which rolled past the flag and started to roll back.

Phil Kavanagh and the staff were wonderful and made me feel like a star!

Once again, thank you for reaching out.

Yuri Mykolyk

Each week we write to Golf Canada members who record a hole-in-one, congratulating them and asking if they’d tell us how it happened. These are their stories (edited for length and clarity).

Have you recently accomplished the feat of a hole-in-one? Tell us about it! Share your story, picture / video and course information with us at holeinone@golfcanada.ca.

Kyle Gold, Maple Downs, Hole #2

I played with Benji Dzaldov, Mitch Glazer, Noah Gutmann. It was 178 yards into wind. Hit a 5 iron.

Stephen Freiburger, Westmount, Hole #3

Westmount Golf and Country Club

Sunday, July 10, 2022

Tee Time: 9:15

Stephen Freiburger with William Wilson and Iain Thomson

Third Hole: Between 9:40 and 10 a.m.

Tee Blocks: Blue, White, Red and Gold with all set at same distance: 165 yards

The prefect club for the third hole today was my new Hybrid 6.

I was the first to tee off! I reminded myself to just swing easy, but it had to be a full swing! I swung nice and easy exactly like I told myself! My ball’s flight was right at the pin, it landed, bounced, rolled and then it disappeared. I wasn’t totally sure, but Bill and Iain were celebrating that it was in the hole.

Steve Freiburger

Steve Kinsey, Shannon Lake Golf Club, Hole #16

Thank you for your e-mail.

I’ve been sort of golfing for about 20 years and became a member at Shannon Lake Golf Club in 2021. I turned 78 on July 11, 2022 and am trying to become a better golfer as I really enjoy golfing with a group called “The Loonies” on Mondays and Fridays.

The hole-in-one came after a rough front nine and was from the blue tees as we were playing Blue/White tees that day. I used my Taylormade rescue 6 from approximately 158 yards and my ball landed 3 feet from the front of the green and rolled in.

Chris Young, Dave Clare, Dave Munroe and I were in the foursome.

Thank you,

Steve Kinsey

George Hare, University Golf Club, Hole #7

Thank you for the email.

June 28, 2022 will be a date I’ll never forget!

The closest I could describe the feeling of my hole-in--one, would be how I felt after the first time I jumped out of a plane. Adrenalin will run throughout you like you have never felt before. I’m not kidding. I played high level hockey up until I was 25, playing in front of filled stadiums, winning championships and my hole-in-one exceeding the high of any of those experiences, I suppose because it’s a solo experience. It truly is magical.

June 28 showed a 60% chance of showers, and I forgot my umbrella. It started to rain lightly on the 6th hole at UBC golf course. A week prior, I was organizing my storage room and found an old favorite golf hat, which I haven’t seen in 20 years, excited to find it, I put it in my bag. With no umbrella, I pulled out the hat and proceeded to tell my buddies Arv Singh and Eric Thrall the story about, what I called my lucky hat. Boys, check this out. I bought this hat 30 years ago when I lived in Japan. In 1992, I worked as a golf caddy at the Appi Kogen Golf Club. I haven’t worn this hat in 20 years…she’s my lucky hat.

The next hole was the par 3, 7th hole. The pin was 140 yards and slightly up hill. For me this is a perfect 7 iron, a club I’m super comfortable with. One practice swing, then line up, exhale and everything felt effortless, it was a pure shot, hardly felt a thing. I could see the ball clear as a bell. It was like slow motion, watching it fly high and straight at it. One bounce and clink! I knew it, right away! My club went flying and fell on the t-box yipping and hollering and my buddies were too. This carried on for a bit. The foursome on the green behind us saw the shot, I could hear them and turned around and they were on their knees in full worship…not worthy. What a feeling!

Walking up to the green, there was a small part of me that thought perhaps it might not have gone in, as the green was elevated and the sightline was about even with me standing, so I was a bit anxious.

I am fortunate my buddy got my reaction on video because it says it all.

Rounds and food were bought, including for the worshippers behind us and the Marshal.

For a hole-in-one at UBC, they make you an embroidered flagstick flag with their emblem and hole number and your name and date of your hole-in-one.

Thank you for acknowledging my hole-in-one.

George Hare

Larry Kotack, Richmond Hill Golf Club, Hole #17

Thank you very much for the congratulations and for acknowledging my hole in one at RHGC on July 2nd. I was golfing with my brother-in-law, Louie Sartor, my nephew, Jamie Sartor and a friend Carl Koteff. As you know, it was on # 17, 141 yards and I hit a 7 iron, TaylorMade Speedblade. I didn’t actually see it go in, but Jamie said he thought it did although he didn’t know for sure.

This was actually my 2nd hole-in-one. The first one was on April 13, 2013, on hole #5 at Eagles Nest in Vaughan.

Thanks again for your interest in this personal achievement.

Kind regards,

Larry

Arnold Shaw, Holiday Park Golf Club, Hole #2

I was golfing with Gerry Zado, Dr. Bert Ball and Bill Michaluk at Holiday Park in the Seniors golf on Thursday June 30th. The second hole was 110 yards. I used my 50-degree wedge and fortunately hit the perfect shot. I was very high and came down about two feet from the pin and bounced once and into the hole. Gerry birdied the hole and Bert and Bill each had pars. Not bad for four golfers who average over eighty years old. This was my fourth “hole-in-one” so it wasn’t as exciting as the first one. We had beers in the Club House after.

Len T.

Todd Clerkson, Pitt Meadows Golf Club, Hole #16

I was playing with Rob Foot and Curt Bogren, fellow members at PMGC.

The 16th hole at PMGC was playing 155 yds into a fairly stiff breeze. I hit 6 iron.

The best part was that the hole-in-one was in addition to 6 birdies and 2 bogies, leading to a personal best 66 — a score I never dreamed of shooting in my lifetime!

Cheers,

Todd

Tom Pinter, Braeben Golf Course, Hole #7

This was my second career ace and much nicer than the first some 25 years ago which was a topped shot that bounced and rolled some 150 yards into the hole.

This one was on the 138 yard 7th at Braeben with a pitching wedge. The swing felt great, and the ball went high and never left the pin, bounced once and disappeared.

I was with my friends Wally, Dominic, and Phil.

Thanks,

Tom

Tom Wile, Ashburn Golf Club, Hole #14

138 to the pin, no breeze. No bounce or roll, dunked it. Was playing with Perry Smith, Mark Farrell and Brad Barton.

Victor Jarjour, Equinelle, Hole #13

Thank you for your interest in my recent hole-in-one. Number 13 hole at Equinelle was playing about 165 yards that day. I used a four hybrid. It was somewhat anticlimactic as my partners and I did not see the ball roll in. We knew it was on a good line but lost sight of it coming down and on the green. I thought it had rolled through the green so that is where we looked for the ball. Eventually, we walked back to the hole and discovered it there! I was playing with other Equinelle members, Hugh Craig, Howard Spaulding and Erin Coyne.

That was my third hole-in-one. The previous two, also at Equinelle, were on number 16.

Again, thanks for your interest.

Best regards,

Victor

Wayne Fenemore, Heron Point Golf Links, Hole #16

Thanks for your email.  I was playing with my buddies; Terry Derouhe, Wayne Vanhorne and Ken Anderson. The hole was 133 yards. I used a six iron. The course was beautiful, and the service was excellent. We all enjoyed our time there.

Wayne Fenemore

Wilson Doornekamp, Landings Golf Course, Hole #4

4th hole. Two older gentlemen (don’t know their names). 170 yards. 3 wood.

Bill Embree, Dalewood Golf Club, Hole #11

This was my fourth hole-in-one (all at Dalewood) and my second on Dalewood’s eleventh hole. The hole was playing about 125 yards, and we were into a bit of wind. The club was a 9 iron. The irons were new to me (Taylor Made Stealth). I had used them for about a week. My playing partners that day were P J Lennon, Fred Hopkins and Paul Hryciw.

My first two holes-in-one were in 2014 and were 27 holes apart. My last one, before this one, was in 2019 and also on the eleventh hole at Dalewood.

Regards,

Bill Embree

Bryan Bodell, Mission Golf and Country Club, Hole #12

Thank you for this opportunity to showcase my ace.

It was our Thursday Seniors Golf and as noted, it was on the 12th hole of our Mission Golf and Country Club. We are playing a temporary green for the 12th as our signature 12th was damaged in the November rain storms. The hole was playing 102 yards uphill. I used a 54-degree gap wedge. The ball landed within a yard of the pin, one hop into the hole.

Of my three aces, this is the first one I have witnessed.  The beer drinking members were happier than I.  All in all, it was a memorable shot.

Bryan

Cheers,

Nick

Tom Pinter, Braeben Golf Course, Hole #7

This was my second career ace and much nicer than the first some 25 years ago which was a topped shot that bounced and rolled some 150 yards into the hole.

This one was on the 138 yard 7th at Braeben with a pitching wedge. The swing felt great, and the ball went high and never left the pin, bounced once and disappeared.

I was with my friends Wally, Dominic, and Phil.

Thanks,

Tom

Mary Beth McKenna, Westmount, Hole #3

Editor’s Note: Our very own Golf Canada staff member, Mary Beth McKenna, achieved an ace at the Westmount Golf and Country Club. This is her second hole-in-one!

It was at the Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship Media Day, so it was quite an event to get the hole-in-one. It was at Westmount Golf & Country Club on Hole #3 from 179 yards and I hit a 4 iron. I was playing with a few members of the media (Brady Kingsbury and Gary McKay) and the host club exemption from Westmount (Angella Lee). Hole #3 is right beside the clubhouse so there was lots of excitement!

Brad Wightman, Two Eagles, Hole #9

Was a heck of timing to get my first hole-in-one.

It was the First Men’s night at Two Eagles in over 2 years! We had co-sponsored the night so playing with some friends and work mates.

Shotgun start and we started on hole 3 – on hole 6 I nearly lipped out a hole in one…!! My cousin Tyler, was in the group in front and said the ball JUST cut across the top of the hole and came to rest about 2 feet away. I was asked by one of my playing partners if I have every had a hole-in-one. ‘No” I said… that is about as close as I ever have! But funny enough I also said that before that shot, the closest I ever had to hole-in-one was hole 9 here at Two eagles a number of years ago.

Cut to hole 9…

I see the Cherry Hill coffee tent set up, but there is no signage to indicate anything special, I assume they just sponsored Men’s night…Cass from Cherry Hill is handing out coffee and I ask what the yardage looks like.  He said it is about 155 yards…with the wind and slope of the green play a 140 yard club.  So, I grab a 9 iron and step up. Hit it crisp with a bit of baby fade, it landed nice. There was a crest in front of the hole that I willed it to get over, because it would leak down towards the hole if it did. It did indeed and began running towards the hole…at this point we knew it was going to be decent, as we watched it roll towards the hole… and suddenly it just disappeared. IN!

Of course, we all went wild and about halfway thru the celebration Cass from Cherry Hill says to me…you know you just won a prize right??!! I had no idea! And the celebration started all over again!  We were all super pumped.

Thankfully not all 120 guys stayed for dinner and drinks, so the bar tab wasn’t too bad!!

Great memory!

The superintendent sent the exact hole stats: 161 yards.

Thank you for the reach out!  Still feels unreal.

Bill Embree, Dalewood Golf Club, Hole #11

This was my fourth hole-in-one (all at Dalewood) and my second on Dalewood’s eleventh hole. The hole was playing about 125 yards, and we were into a bit of wind. The club was a 9 iron. Grady Taylor, Nest Golf Club, Hole #8

What a great email to get, thank you very much.

It was my first ever, so quite the experience.

I was playing with two of my regular partners, Mark Kolchetski and Terry Needle. The yardage that day was 168 and a strong left to right wind. I used my 7 iron and hit into the wind and let it carry the ball back towards the green. The ball bounced once and then disappeared into the cup. We all saw it so clearly it was awesome.

Once it happened word spread quickly and before I knew our club GM, Peter Young, was driving out in the cart to congratulate me. So happy that I did it on my home course at the Nest, it’s in beautiful condition and the staff is top notch. It was great to share it with all of them. Thanks for the certificate.

Alexander Heuton, Sleepy Hollow, Hole #3

Thanks for the note. I was playing with one of my usual playing partners and fellow member, Conrad Hansuld. We were playing hole number 3 at Sleepy Hollow from the back tees. The pin was front left.

Bill Dickout, Edmonton Country Club, Hole #13

Many thanks for the recognition. The setting was Men’s Day at the ECC. A blustery day with the breeze into us. My foursome included Harold Schmaltz, Trevor Theman and Dave Reich. I was last to hit (says something about the game I was having) and noticed my partners had come up short on the 172-yard hole. I clubbed up to a 4 iron and hit a baby draw to the left front hole position. My mates could see the ball disappear, I thought it had slipped into the swale at the left side of the green. Harold was first to arrive at the green and when no ball was found on the green, he confirmed the surprise, “in the hole”. Unfortunately, as a bunch of old guys we never considered capturing the moment on camera. Club policy has free beverages for all and as it was Men’s Day there were many happy members to share the event!

Once again thanks for the recognition.

Regards,

Bill

Bill Whiteford, Brockville Country Club, Hole #15

Thank you. Yardage was 170 I hit a 3 hybrid and was playing with Rick Moran and Gord Porter.

Chris Northfield, TPC Toronto, Hole #5

Thanks. The hole was playing about 155 yards uphill slightly into the wind. I used a 6 iron and hit a great shot just short and left of the pin. It rolled about 2 yards turned right then in. I was playing with my good friend Ralph Geronimo. This was my 3rd hole-in-one.

Chris Rooney, Bally Haly Country Club, Hole #13

Thank you for the lovely note.

It was a chilly and windy day. Hit a decent 5 iron shot into the wind, landed short of the hole then rolled in with some pace. Couldn’t quite tell if it dropped from the tee, but a passerby witnessed it and confirmed that it dropped as we approached the green. My playing partners were Andrew Marshall, Blair Evans and Mark Summers.

Warm regards,

Chris

Colin Varley, The Lakes Golf Club, Hole #17

Hey.

Thanks for your kind letter.

Playing partners that day, left to right – myself, Kevin Black in the back, Bernie Gouthro and Laurie Murchison far right. The hole can be windy and with that in mind, I punched a 6 iron to the hole – approximately 120 yards away. Someone told me afterwards ‘it doesn’t matter what the yardage is, say you hit a pitching wedge’. It was what it was. As you suggest, a special moment shared with special friends. Thanks again for your letter.

Dale Preston, Storey Creek Golf Club, Hole #5

Thanks for the congrats on my hoke in one.

I was playing with Dan Betinson, Grant Desmet, and Nick Boyd.  Wednesday is men’s night at storey creek. The 4 of us play together pretty much every Wednesday.  That night the yardage was 180 yards. I used a hybrid 4 iron. No of us were sure the ball went in just because of where the pin was. Couple of the guys thought it was in but weren’t sure. I had to go look in the hole to be sure. It was my second hole-in-one on hole 5 at storey creek and third overall. All three happened on men’s night. It was a pretty special moment last week for sure.

Thanks,

Dale Preston

Darcy Walushka, The Rise Golf Course, Hole #18

Appreciate the congratulations on my first ever hole-in-one! Was quite a rush for sure.

Date: Wednesday June 8, 2022

Hole: #18 at The Rise, in Vernon, BC

Yardage: 198

Club: 7 Iron

Playing Partners: Jeremy Yarwood, Tony Walsh, and Kyle Greening.

Thanks again for the congratulations! Look forward to seeing what you guys do with the rest of my information.

Dave Hathway, Acton Golf Club, Hole #16

Thanks for taking an interest in my hole-in-one!

It’s only the 3rd time my wife (Kathye) and I have played the course starting last year. As mentioned, I played with my wife and we were paired with a father and son, John and Jeff (we have no details about them) and Jeff graciously acted as a witness when I reported to the clubhouse (and he signed the card). The hole normally plays 160 yards from the Whites, as per the scorecard but the tee box was under repair and as per GPS, it showed as 122 yds to the middle. We were hitting from the fairway and the hole is slightly uphill so we could not see the cup. I used a 9 iron and saw it was right at the pin but as the greens weren’t holding that day, I fully expected the ball to bounce off the back of the green into the rough. Jokingly, before going to look in the rough, I said I’d just take a quick look in the cup and there it was! I was so shocked it was in.

This is my 2nd hole-in-one in my life. My first was last year, June 19 at Nottawasaga Hill course, hole #9. I waited 56 years for my first one and less than a year for the 2nd. Can’t wait for June 2023!

Thanks again for your interest.

Diane Paterson, Kelowna, Hole #13

Hi,

Thank you so much! It was so fun.

I was golfing with Colleen Simpson, Sherry Bradley and Valerie Bitner. Val saw it hit the pin, but I walked fine with my 9 iron and putter thinking it rolled off the green.

I used a Callaway 7 wood, and it was a front pin. I believe the front was 128 on my Garmin but it was over water.

I actually had another one almost 6 years ago on hole #7 at Black Mountain. Needless to say, my husband who has never had one is less than impressed. Ha ha!

Diane

Dylan Kearley, Raven Crest Golf & Country Club, Hole #3

On 06/10/2022, I was golfing with my dad and another partner who we had just met that day. It was early in our round, 3rd hole to be exact, when we approached a Par 3 from about 135 yards out. I used my 8 iron and hit a clean shot but just to the right of the green. There was a mound over there, and having previously played there, was hoping for a kick left. Sure enough, it catches the mound, kicks left and rolls towards the hole. It disappears as it got close to the hole and I was pretty sure it was one, along with one of my partners. They let me approach the green and sure enough, the ball was in. The whole day was a blur after!

Thanks!

Dylan Kearley

Irene Clarkson, Carnoustie Golf Club, Hole #14

What a pleasant surprise.

Indeed, I got a hole-in-one on the #14 par 3 at the Carnoustie Golf Course on Monday June 6, 2022. I used my Taylormade M4, 6 hybrid to hit 131 yards. I landed the green and watched the ball roll to the pin. I wasn’t certain of it falling in the hole, as that is beyond belief. I actually thought it rimmed the hole and rolled behind the pin. As I approached the green, I finally suspected that I had actually achieved a hole-in-one since the ball did not have enough momentum to roll to the back of the green. It’s an exciting moment of golf!

I played my round with Annie Lucas and Gail Limmert who are both members of the Carnoustie Ladies Club.

Unfortunately, we did not take a picture of me on the green as this is my second hole-in-one on the #14 par 3. The first occurred October 4, 2015, when I was playing with Jan Hull, Trena Cole and Vivian Dawson from our Carnoustie Ladies Club.

My second hole-in-one July 30, 2019, on the #8 par 3 at Carnoustie while playing with Barb Boivin and Denise Pineau who are members of the Carnoustie Ladies Club.

I have golfed all over Canada and I think it is amazing to get a hole-in-one, however I can’t believe that I have had three of them and all on the same course with ladies from my club.

I can share a picture of the ball. When getting a hole-in-one, I immediately pull out my Sharpie and write the date, hole number, and have the ladies I am golfing with sign my ball.

Thank you so much for the wonderful graphic.  What a surprising acknowledgement!

Kindest regards,

Irene Clarkson

Jeff Pearce, Collicutt Siding, Hole #14

Thank you very much. The distance was 165 yards. Used a 8 iron and was playing with fellow members Ken Sharrun, Brad Kaminski and Masayaki Tsuzuki. Once again thank you for the email!

John Gustavson, Capilano, Hole #4

Thank you for the email and the certificate for my hole-in-one. Further to your email, I would like to share the details of my experience.

The day started off with my wife Monica, son Hans and his girlfriend Sarah teeing off in the rain at Capilano. After three holes of rain, the rain stopped, and we all teed off #4 the par 3 at Capilano Golf and Country Club. My son teed of first, then I hit my tee shot… Hans watched the shot and said “I think that went in ?” … Monica and Sarah then hit their tee shots. We all walked up to the green, there were 3 balls on the green … as I walked by the hole I saw my ball in the hole! What a great feeling!

The distance was 148 yards and the club I used was a 6 iron … (I don’t hit my irons as far anymore, but I guess far enough!)

I have played golf for a long time and always wanted to get a hole-in-one. To be able to achieve this with your wife and son was very memorable and special experience for my first hole-in-one! As well, Sarah the fourth in our group has had 2 hole-in-one’s! So there more work to be done to catch her!

Thanks again for your email.

John Gustavson

Jonathan Griffith, Marine Drive Golf Club, Hole #14

Thank you, it definitely is pretty exciting! The people I played with are Nailin Esmail and Khairun Vellani. I didn’t previously know them and joined up on their tee time. The yardage was 138 yards and I use my Taylor made p7mc 9 iron.

Thanks,

Jonathan Griffith

Josh Sone, King’s Riding Golf Club, Hole #2

Thank you so much! It was a very exciting feeling!

I was playing with my dad, Evan, and one of his friends, Mark.

The yardage was 131 Yards to the blue flag placement, and I hit a pitching wedge.

Thanks,

Josh

Luka Brtan, Carlisle, Hole #16

Thank you for reaching out and your kinds words in regards to my hole-in-one! It’s definitely a moment I will never forget!

I was playing with my two friends, Robby Randhawa and Brent Teunissen, who are both Golf Canada members as well. We were about 125 yards out and I used my Pitching Wedge to hit the shot!

Thanks again for reaching out! Have a great day!

Sincerely,

Luka Brtan

Mark Caplan, Point Grey, Hole #13

Thank you. 13th hole, 160 yards into the wind. 6 iron.

Mark Taciuk, Century Pines Golf Club, Hole #13

Thanks for the note.

It was my second round of the day, so I was playing with a single and a mom and son twosome. The two men signed the card

It was hole #13 and I was playing the white tees, it was 148 to the pin and I hit a 7 iron. The ball was a ChromeSoft Canada ball.

Thanks again for the note.

Neil Ringwood, Royal Ontario Golf Club, Hole #8

Wow…my legend precedes me. Big thanks for the high five and you’re right: I’ll be talking about that one for a while.

Probably like most distinctly average golfers, I spent too much time looking for my ball over the back of the green.

Neil

Oliver McEvoy, Shannon Lake Golf Club, Hole #16

Thanks for the kudos.

It was on hole 16 which 147 yards with a 9 iron.

Witnessed by Dana Bennett and Sean Wall.

Peter Theocharis, Stratford Country Club, Hole #10

Hello!

I had to rush to the course to make my 4:28pm tee time because of a busy day at work. Once I got there, I felt flustered because I wasn’t able to warm up on the range or putting green. I didn’t end up shooting very well on the front 9 so I had to grab myself a beer at the halfway house to reset for the back 9.

Hole 10 was playing 168 yards that day with the front pin. My friend Andrew Barton stuck his shot 8 feet near the pin, and my other friend Brad McClure stuck his shot 10 feet near the pin. When it was my turn to hit, I took out my 8 iron and made a subtle comment “want to see a third?” When I hit my shot, it felt so pure as it headed directly for the hole. The ball landed 5 feet short, and we were all watching to see if it would roll in, and once it did the group erupted. Our 4th group member Reilly McCann grabbed me to start celebrating and I felt like I blacked out because I couldn’t believe what happened. I’m sure the whole course heard us celebrating!

Thank you!

Peter Theocharis

Peter Lavergne, Maple Ridge Golf Club, Hole #6

Thank you for the recognition.

I was playing with some of my regular Tuesday night guys; Greg Nanton, Tim Clark and Geoff Wheaton.

It was 130 yards to the pin. I hit my 8 iron left of the pin by about 30 feet but it came down off the side hill and across the green and into the cup.

Ironically, none of us saw it go in from the tee box as the pin was behind a sand trap. When we got to the green, we could not find my ball until I looked in the cup and there it was!

P.S. This was my first ever HIO! I am 67 and I have been playing golf for about 45 years.

Sam Forgione, The Pulpit Club, Hole #7

Thank you for reaching out.

Friday was a perfect day at The Pulpit, one of the most beautiful courses in Canada.

I was playing with two other Members that day, Greg Blackstock and Buddy Pitt as well as our new Director of Golf – Donovan Fraser.

The hole-in-one happened on hole #7, blue tees, the pin placement was back center, wind right to left and the distance was 134 yards. I hit an 8 iron and it one hopped into the hole. A very exciting moment.

This was my second hole in one.  The other one was also on hole #7 at the Paintbrush.

It was a fun moment to share with our foursome and the other groups that we were with that day.

Thank you,

Sam

Scott Cherrey, Whistle Bear Golf Club, Hole #8

It certainly was an exciting evening on June 10 for my first hole-in-one!

We were sitting eating dinner and thought…let’s go get 9 holes in at the Bear, so we quickly finished up and got ready for golf. It was my wife Christa, daughter Katelynne and youngest son Kaese (our oldest son Tyson was at work).

It was a beautiful sunny evening for golf. Once we got around to the par 3 #8 hole, I pulled my 8 iron for the 155 yd shot. When I hit the ball, I knew it was tracking towards the hole, but there was a ridge just over the bunker, so I didn’t know the ball went in the hole (I knew it had to be close to the hole). My family proceeded to hit from the red tees. When we got up to the green, we couldn’t see the ball, Kaese was the first to the hole…and confirmed the ball was in! There was obviously a big celebration (shock)…and hugs all around! It was a fantastic moment shared with the family.

Best part is it was on my last day in my 30’s! Turned 40 the next day.

Spencer Noakes, TPC Toronto, Hole #7

Thank you! First one ever. It was on hole #7 north course at Osprey valley golf tees yardage was 201 yards.

Susan Holm, Canmore Golf Club, Hole #8

Thank you for this nice congratulations note from Golf Canada.

I was golfing my second round of the day (after a morning women’s open tournament at our club) with my husband David Holm on his  65th birthday, our son Marcus Holm age 24 and who was playing golf as if he’s played all his life (he hasn’t – he’s a skier and a climber) and our best man and friend Allan Zivot who has taught me a lot about golf over 30 years especially when we were members at the Hamptons Golf course when it initially opened. I used to play 36 holes there, as I’m a school teacher with summers off, and was very close to a hole-in-one. I remember that one because I was playing alone and was thankful it didn’t go in as I didn’t have any witnesses.  Well, I sure had the best witnesses today.

Right after the three men had tee’d off from the blue tee box my husband said matter of factly as they unnecessarily do, “hurry up Susan, the group is right behind us”. So, I grabbed my 9 iron after reading 130 yards on my Garmin. I hit it high and it dropped in front of the pin on the green and rolled right in!

Sincerely,

Susan Holm

Thomas White, Riverside Country Club, Hole #8

Wow, thank you. My playing partners were Bob Haines, Mike Tilley, and Chris Gulliver. I used a pitching wedge and the yardage that day was 132 yards. This was my first hole-in-one, so we are pretty pumped.

Thank you again,

Tom White

Tom White, Cordova Bay Golf Course, Hole #17

Playing with Rob Russell and Robert Reese. 150 yards. 4 hybrid.

Mike Vercillo, Paradise Canyon, Hole #17

Thank you for your email. It’s as a pleasant surprise as the actual hole-in-one.

The details are:

  • I was playing with Brian Thiessen and Mike Tkachuk who are also members at Paradise Canyon.
  • I was using the championship (blue) tees so approximate yardage was 190 yards and I used a 5 iron.
  • I saw the ball land just before the green, bounce and then roll on the green. It was deep middle (white) flag positioned on the right side of the green. Because of our vantage point we could see most of the pin (flag) but could not see the cup. Therefore, we did not see it roll in. When we got there, we did not see my ball anywhere on the green, so Mike Tkachuk was the first to assume it went in and sure enough found my ball in the cup.
  • Strangely, although I was happy as it was my very first hole-in-one, I took it all in stride and did not get overly excited. I probably would have gotten more excited if I could have watched it roll in.

Thank you for your congratulations. I use the Golf Canada app every time I golf and keep my score and a few statistics on a hole-by-hole basis. It’s an awesome app. Keep the good work.

Regards,

Mike Vercillo

Hello,

Thanks for the email. Yes, you can share the hole in one on your website and social. I have attached a couple of photos.

It was the 7th hole at McCleery Golf Course. The yardage was 133 yards and I used a 7 iron. I was playing with my sister Colleen Chambers, friend Michael Tablit, and Jennifer Sydenham.

Thanks so much,

Jordan Pettetie, Sturgeon Valley, Hole #5

Thanks for the email! I was playing in a foursome with one of the others being a Golf Canada member: Chance Thomas. The yardage was 142 yards and pitching wedge was club of choice. I have also attached a photo!

Thanks again.

Lane Menage, Lloydminster, Hole #6

It was a beautiful morning in Lloydminister and I was playing with three of my best friends. Their names are Mark, Rylan and Stephane. I was having a particularly rough round so I just reached in my bag and grabbed whatever ball came out. It turned out to be a very dirty taylormade ball. My friends were laughing at me saying why are you using that ball! When we got to hole 6 it was playing 179 yards from the blue tee’s and I pulled a 7 iron out of the bag. It was the purest 7 iron I have ever hit. As soon as I hit it it felt so good! The ball flight never left the flag and my friends kept saying “oh this looks good! Ohhhh this could go in” we heard a loud bang as the ball struck the pin and disappeared. We didn’t see it land on the green and my friends got very excited! I wasn’t buying it as I thought I saw something go right after we heard the ball hit the pin. My friends kept telling me it was In. I grew more curious and more excited but I had to wait for Stephane to hit. After he hit we rush down to the green, I ran towards the hole and didn’t see any balls that’s could have been mine. I got more and more excited and when I got to the hole I saw my dirty Taylormade ball sitting in the hole! I screamed with excitement and threw my hat with extreme excitement and started running away from my friends. Haha. When I turned around they were chasing me down and we celebrated on the green for a few minutes and took a couple pictures. The old dirty Taylormade ball is now retired and I still can’t believe this is real life. What a day, something my friends and I will never forget!

You can absolutely share my story and picture on your website and social Chanel’s, thank you for reaching out!

Cheers,

Larry Plante, The Dunes at Kamloops, Hole #13

Thank you for the email.

It was hole 13 at the Dunes of Kamloops. It was hailing at the time with a little wind. The yardage was 143 and I hit a pitching wedge.

Thank you,

Mary Monk, Kelowna Springs, Hole #13

Happy to share my story. I was with two of my golf girls on the 13th hole at Kelowna Springs; Maureen Ziprick and Gloria Westgate.

The distance that day was showing 122, which put me in between clubs. I opted for my 7 iron – glad I did. I could see the flag but not the hole. My friends said “it went in”! I didn’t take them seriously. When I got up to the green and didn’t see my ball I figured I over shot the green. Gloria walked over to the pin and said it’s in!

Needless to say my friends and I were thrilled as were some of the other golfers that were close by.

Thank you for interest in my hole in one. It was a great afternoon.

Matthew Hunter, Riveredge Golf Club, Hole #4

Was playing with a few buddies on men’s night. Yardage was around 137 yards. Little into the wind. Hit 8 iron. Nice high draw. Two bounces and the ball vanished. Because the pin was tucked just over a ridge we weren’t 100% certain if it was in or bounced long. Didn’t take long once we arrived on the green before we located the ball in the hole. I ran all the way back to the tee and jumped in the pond with the boys chasing/filming.

Feel free to share as you please!

Maureen Haight, Sirocco Golf Club, Hole #7

Thank you for acknowledging my Hole In One at Sirocco Golf course, where I am a member. It was very exciting.

I retired on May 1, 2022 and had my first ever hole-in-one on May 31, 2022;  which is a great way to start my retirement.

I was playing in our Ladies’ League with three great friends. It was a gorgeous evening.

We were on hole 7, down hill to the pin 93 yards. The pin was middle left. I used my wedge; the shot felt good and even better, when it rolled into the hole.

Please feel free to share my story and picture.

Mike Wraith, St. Mary’s, Hole #18

Thank you for the congratulations. I was playing with Rich Parsons and Jim Robson. The 18th hole was playing about 122 yards from the white tee block and I used a 9 iron. It was my third ace on that hole.

Thanks again,

Mike Wraith

Sue Stankievech, Kamloops, Hole #4

I played with Garry Stankievech and Brent Bowden. Yardage 132. I used a 3 wood. The ball hit the front of the green and rolled in the hole, we all saw it.  So exciting.

Vic Juzenas, Batteaux Creek, Hole #8

I was playing with my wife Cheryl Juzenas. However Sunday was a slow day the group behind us was waiting on the same tee with us Andrew Lauren also witnessed it.

I used a 9 iron pin was 127 yards from yellow tees.

This is my 5th hole-in-one, the second on the 8th hole at Batteaux. I also had a hole in one at Settlers’ Ghost 2 weeks previous. All of my hole-in-ones have been at Golf North managed courses. I had one in 1992 at Trafalgar.

Hopefully I have not had my luck run out.

Vishal Tulsi, Silvertip Golf Resort, Hole #3

Thanks for reaching out. I was playing with my brother-in-law the day before his wedding at Silvertip in Canmore.

The hole was number 3 playing 196 yds. I hit a solid 6 iron and it was tracking but we lost sight of the ball as the green is slightly uphill. When we got to the green I didn’t see my ball so I checked the cup and saw my ball in the hole!

It was an incredible experience and was capped off by an awesome wedding the next day.

Thanks!

Vishal Tulsi

Each week we write to Golf Canada members who record a hole-in-one, congratulating them and asking if they’d tell us how it happened. These are their stories (edited for length and clarity).

Tom White

Joe Chambers, McCleery Public, Hole #7

Joe Chambers

Vaughn Perusse, Don Valley Golf Club, Hole #13

Thanks for the email. The hole-in-one I had on Sunday was my 4th, but most satisfying. My first was in 1995 on Dentonia Park #1. I have 2 other aces at Don Valley, #5 in 2000, #15 in 2020 and now #13 last Sunday. I was playing with my wife, Rossana Cossaro, and our regular playing partners Steve Lowe and Eduardo Gutierrez. I believe the yardage was 140 and the best part…my club was a Tom Auchterlonie hickory mashie from St. Andrews, about 115 years old!

Thanks, Vaughn
